Biomedical engineers, medical scientists, and clinicians are expressing a notable interest in the measurement of blood flow rate because it is used to detect cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis and arrhythmia. Several researchers have adopted various non-Newtonian fluid models to investigate blood flow in the circulatory system. Because many non-Newtonian fluid models like Herschel Buckley, Powell-Eyring fluid, tangent hyperbolic fluid, and Williamson fluid exhibit the characteristics of blood. The tangent hyperbolic fluid model expresses the rheological characteristics of blood more accurately due to its shear-thinner properties. This work is performed to express the significance of the induced magnetic field and gyrotactic microorganisms on the flow of tangent hyperbolic nanofluid over a plate, wedge and stagnation point of the plate. Suitable self-similarity variables are employed to convert the fluid transport equations into ordinary differential equations which have been solved with the use of the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg (RKF) approach. The impacts of active parameters on transport properties of the fluid are illustrated with graphs and tables. The growing magnetic parameter lessens the blood nanofluid velocity over three geometries. Blood nanofluid has a higher heat transfer rate over a stagnation point compared with other two geometries. Blood nanofluid temperature augments for uplifting the thermophoresis parameter. Peclet number shows a high impact on microorganisms density in a blood nanofluid. This exploration can provide a clear view regarding the heat and mass transfer behavior of blood flow in a circulatory system and various hyperthermia treatments like treatment of cancer. © IMechE 2020.

Numerical simulation of blood nanofluid flow over three different geometries by means of gyrotactic microorganisms: Applications to the flow in a circulatory system

The analysis of entropy generation has received notable attention in the study of nanofluids because the prime objective of nanofluids is to admit high heat fluxes. The entropy production can be utilized to generate the entropy in any irreversible heat transfer process which is important in thermal machines. This work presents to explore the fluid transport characteristics and entropy generation of a tangent hyperbolic nanofluid over a horizontal circular cylinder with the influence of nonlinear Boussinesq approximation. The dimensionless nonlinear partial differential equations have been solved by using an implicit finite difference Keller box scheme. The impacts of active parameters on the flow field like Weissenberg number, power-law index, magnetic field, mixed convection, Brownian motion, thermal convention, thermophoresis and radiation are illustrated with graphs and tables. The current results exposed that the nanofluid velocity enhances for enhancing the mixed convection parameter. Isotherms thickness is escalated with increasing values of radiation parameter. Entropy generation of tangent hyperbolic nanofluid flow over a circular cylinder in the presence of nonlinear Boussinesq approximation: a non-similar solution

Competition is one of the underlining phenomena in the world that has been continuously deforming the life and history of human beings, animals, plants and even microorganisms. The results of different competitions are fascinating from explanation of evolution to the dramatic industrial revolution. The article proposes a mathematical model to estimate the outcome probability of different competitors in a competition system on account of the number of failure gates associated. The article includes special cases like the tournament model considering the number of failure gates which are likely at various levels of competition. The study additionally gives the idea of identical probability curves on account of eight member competitions which is highly relevant in strategy and decision making process and there by sustainability of an individual competitor gets ensured. The concept of identical probability utilised here will help to understand the different scenarios in a competitive environment, with similar chance for occurrence. The model developed will definitely be a more practically relevant substitute for conventional probabilistic tools, including Bayesian approaches and whilst the character of considering bulk of competitors all together, enabling the model itself to find further extensions in the dimension of modern game theory as well. The time-dependent behaviour of number of failure gate envisaged provides more practical scope for the mathematical model presented. The model is applicable to analyse the trust related issues in supply chain with huge number of suppliers participating and also in the areas of decision making in the field of industrial management and completion science as a whole. © 2020 The Authors

Modelling and outcome analysis of a competitive environment – A probabilistic approach

This study investigated how greenhouse managers should invest in preservation and green technologies and introduce trade credit to increase their profits. We propose a supply chain inventory model with controllable deterioration and emission rates under payment schemes for shortage and surplus, where demand depends on price and trade credit. Carbon emissions and deterioration are factors affecting global warming, and many greenhouse managers have focused on reducing carbon emissions. Carbon caps and tax-based incentives have been used in many green-houses to achieve such reduction. Because of the importance of reducing carbon emissions for developing a green supply chain, various studies have investigated how firms deal with carbon emission constraints. In this continuation, we have used green technology to curb the excessive emissions from the environment or make it clean from CO2. In a seller–buyer relationship, the seller can offer a trade credit period to the buyer to manage stock and stimulate demand. Deterioration may become a challenge for most firms as they are under time constraints control, and preservation technology could help. This study proposes three novel inventory strategies for a sustainable supply chain (full backorder, partial backorder, and no backorder), linking all these important issues. The solution optimizes total annual profit for inventory shortage or surplus. We conducted a numerical study with three examples to evaluate the model’s authenticity and effectiveness and demonstrate the solution technique. The deterioration and emission rates can be included in a trade credit policy to increase greenhouse profits. Optimizing a sustainable supply chain inventory model for controllable deterioration and emission rates in a greenhouse farm

The use of castellated beams has increased a lot in the past few years in all types of structures. The castellated beam is one of the several methods used to decrease the weight and cost of steel used in the construction. In castellated beams, increased depths can be achieved without increasing the self-weight of the structure. The significant advantages of castellated beams are better possessing bending moment capacity, ease of providing service pipes and wires, and aesthetic appearances. The castellated beams are made by making a zigzag cut through the web according to the desired opening shape and size, and then the two parts are welded together. In this work, static and dynamic analyses of the castellated steel beam section (ISMB 300) are performed to compare deflection, stress distribution, shear Stress, amplitude, and natural frequency. The investigation is done using ANSYS 18. The Castellated beam having a maximum opening of size 0.6h is used for the study. Static and dynamic analysis of steel beams with web openings

The objective of the study is to design the fuzzy-based integral sliding mode control, which resolves the stability issues of multi-area interconnected power systems (MAIPS) integrated with wind farm (WF) involving the delays. The contribution can be categorized into two sections. Firstly, the dynamical characteristics of the power system are acquired various factors such as output from the wind generator, the existence of time-delays. The derived model becomes nonlinear due to WF integration and complications occur during the stability analysis. In such a situation, the Takagi–Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy approach is employed to approximate the nonlinear model into linear sub-models. However, the nonlinearities of WF can be linearized at a certain operating point which does not ensure the accuracy of the model. Secondly, to ensure stable performance, the suitable controller scheme becomes necessary and different types of control algorithms are available in the literature for the conventional power system model. This study focuses on designing the controller that copes with the T-S fuzzy model. We design a fuzzy-based integral sliding mode load frequency control (FISMLFC) controller and theoretically validate their performance by utilizing the Lyapunov stability theory and linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Further, two-area MAIPS is simulated under the experimental values and their results are provided. © 2020 Elsevier Inc.

Fuzzy logic-based integral sliding mode control of multi-area power systems integrated with wind farms

The current research work is devoted to study the exploration of dissipation and chemical reaction on MHD radiative Casson nanoliquid thin film flow generated due to the sheet stretching. Brownian motion, viscous dissipation, radiation and chemical reactions are considered, respectively, in energy and concentration equations. The popularly used similarity variables are utilized to remodel the nonlinear partial differential equations to a system of ordinary differential equations. The computational results are obtained for this system by adopting shooting technique. The impressions of significant flow variables on liquid stream are obtained through diagrams and tables. The outcomes of current work conclude that the thickness of thin film decreases with the rise of unsteady, magnetic and Casson parameters. Also, for higher estimates of non-Newtonian parameter a reduction in the coefficient of wall friction is noticed. Unsteady Casson nanofluid thin film flow over a stretching sheet with viscous dissipation and chemical reaction

In this work, we define new α-λ-rational contractive conditions and establish fixed-points results based on aforesaid contractive conditions for a mapping in extended Branciari b-distance spaces. We furnish two examples to justify the work. Further, we discuss results on weak well-posed property, weak limit shadowing property, and generalized w-Ulam-Hyers stability in the underlying space. Finally, as an application of our main result, we obtain sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions of a nonlinear fractional differential equation with integral boundary conditions. © 2021 Reena Jain et al.

On Extended Branciari b -Distance Spaces and Applications to Fractional Differential Equations

Natural convection of triangular enclosure filled with water-based nanofluid under the influence of Brownian diffusion and thermophoresis is studied numerically in two cases by depending on wall boundary conditions. The high (hot) temperature vertical wall and the insulated bottom wall are considered in case (i) and the other case the bottom wall is uniformly heated while the vertical wall is thermally insulated. In both cases, the inclined wall is maintained low temperature (i.e., cold inclined wall). The coupled governing vorticity–stream function formulation equations are employed by the help of finite difference method (FDM). The influence of the Rayleigh number, Lewis number on fluid flow, heat have been examined through graphically and discussed. It has been found that in the case of uniform heating is high sensitive to rising of the Ra, while the uniform heating of the left wall of the cavity is not so sensitive to changes of Ra. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Simulation of Natural Convective Heat Transfer in a Triangular Enclosure Filled with Nanofluid: Buongiorno’s Mathematical Model

This is an introductory book on continuous statistical distributions and its applications. It is primarily written for graduate students in engineering, undergraduate students in statistics, econometrics and researchers in various fields. The purpose is to give a self-contained introduction to most commonly used classical continuous distributions in two parts. Important applications of each distribution in various applied fields are explored at the end of each chapter. A brief overview of the chapters is as follows. Chapter 1 discusses important concepts on continuous distributions like location-and-scale distributions, truncated, size-biased and transmuted distributions. A theorem on finding the mean deviation of continuous distributions and its applications are also discussed. Chapter 2 is on continuous uniform distribution, which is used in generating random numbers from other distributions. Exponential distribution is discussed in Chapter 3 and its applications briefly mentioned. Chapter 4 discusses both Beta-I and Beta-II distributions and their generalizations, as well as applications in geotechnical engineering, PERT, control charts, etc. The arcsine distribution and its variants are discussed in Chapter 5, along with arcsine transforms and Brownian motion. This is followed by gamma distribution and its applications in civil engineering, metallurgy and reliability. Chapter 7 is on cosine distribution and its applications in signal processing, antenna design and robotics path planning. Chapter 8 discusses the normal distribution and its variants like lognormal and skew-normal distributions. The last chapter of Part I is on Cauchy distribution, its variants and applications in thermodynamics, interferometer design and carbon-nanotube strain sensing.
