Iron (Fe) substituted cerium oxide (Ce0.95Fe0.05O2) nanoparticles were synthesized by solid state reaction and annealed in vacuum at a pressure of 1 × 10−3 mbar at two different temperatures (473 K and 673 K). The annealed nanoparticles were characterized for structural, optical and magnetic properties and studied the role of annealing on these properties. From XRD studies it was observed that the crystallite size decreased from 27 nm to 23 nm and the lattice constant increased from 5.37 Å to 5.39 Å with increase of annealing temperature from 473 K to 673 K. From the optical studies, it was found that the optical band gap of the nanoparticle remains unchanged (3.32 eV). The magnetic properties confirmed that the nanoparticles were ferromagnetic and the strength of magnetization increased by annealing the nanoparticles at two temperatures. The un-annealed Ce0.95Fe0.05O2 nanoparticles exhibited a magnetic moment of 0.07 emu/g with coercive field of 491 Oe. But a significant change in magnetization was occurred when the Ce0.95Fe0.05O2 nanoparticles annealed at 673 K. The saturation magnetic moment and coercive field of 0.437 emu/g, 677 Oe were observed for Ce0.95Fe0.05O2 nanoparticles, when annealed at 673 K. Effect of annealing on structural, optical and magnetic properties of Ce0.95Fe0.05O2 nanoparticles

The purpose of this study is to (i) investigate the impact of various air gaps in conjunction with a range shifter&nbsp;of 7.5&nbsp;cm water-equivalent-thickness&nbsp;(WET) on in-air spot size of a pencil proton beam at the isocenter and off-axis points, and (ii) compare&nbsp;the treatment planning system (TPS) calculated spot sizes against the measured spot sizes. A scintillation detector has been utilized to measure the in-air spot sizes at the isocenter. The air gap was varied from 0 to 35&nbsp;cm at an increment of 5&nbsp;cm. For each air gap, a single spot pencil proton beam of various energies (110–225 MeV) was delivered to the scintillation detector. By mimicking the experimental setup in RayStation TPS, proton dose calculations were performed using pencil beam (RS-PB) and Monte Carlo (RS-MC) dose calculation algorithms. The calculated spot sizes (RS-PB and RS-MC) were then compared against the measured spot sizes. For a comparative purpose, the spot sizes of each measured energy for different air gaps of (5–35&nbsp;cm) were compared against that of 0&nbsp;cm air gap. The results of the 5&nbsp;cm air gap showed an increase in spot size by ≤ 0.6&nbsp;mm for all energies. For the largest air gap (35&nbsp;cm) in the current study, the spot size increased by 3.0&nbsp;mm for the highest energy (225&nbsp;MeV) and by 9.2&nbsp;mm for the lowest energy (110&nbsp;MeV). For the 0&nbsp;cm air gap, the agreement between the TPS-calculated (RS-PB and RS-MC) and measured spot sizes were within ± 0.1&nbsp;mm. For the 35&nbsp;cm air gap, the RS-PB overpredicted spot sizes by 0.3–0.8&nbsp;mm, whereas the RS-MC computed spot sizes were within ± 0.3&nbsp;mm of measured spot sizes. In conclusion,&nbsp;spot size increment is dependent on the energy and air gap. The increase in spot size was more pronounced at lower energies (&lt; 150&nbsp;MeV) for all air gaps. The comparison between the TPS calculated and measured spot sizes showed that the RS-MC is more accurate (within ± 0.3&nbsp;mm), whereas the RS-PB overpredicted (up to 0.8&nbsp;mm) the spot sizes when a range shifter (7.5&nbsp;cm WET) and large air gaps are encountered in the proton beam path. © 2019, Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine.

Measurements of in-air spot size of pencil proton beam for various air gaps in conjunction with a range shifter on a ProteusPLUS PBS dedicated machine and comparison to the proton dose calculation algorithms

The primary power sources for movable electronic devices and vehicles are mostly based on lithium-ion batteries in the recent decays. Conversely, they suffer from restrictions for their use in electric resources of transportation and other high-level applications. Extended application of lithium-ion batteries needs the fabrication of novel electrode materials with outstanding electrochemical performances, which, to a great extent, depends on the electrode materials. The efficiency of the electrode materials have been improved by doping and coating to improve the performance of an anode or cathode materials in Li-ion batteries (LIBs). Elemental doping and coatings have modified by most of the commonly used electrode materials, which are used either as anode or cathode materials. This has led to the high diffusivity of Li-ions, ionic mobility and conductivity apart from specific capacity. Most of the newly stated electrode materials have been identified as to provide an enhanced performance by several parameters such as specific capacity, specific energy cyclic stability and charge/discharge rate. Cathode materials stock energy through intercalation or conversion reactions, even though the energy storage process in anode materials are intercalation, conversion reactions or alloying/dealloying. Therefore, the existing situation of electrode materials of Li-ion batteries can be extremely promising in enhancing the battery performance making it more efficient than before. Based on the electrode material, one or more of the above-mentioned mechanisms may take place which directly affects the battery performance. In this review, we have reported the performance of the existing metal oxide coated cathode materials in LIB applications and the way to improve the performance of the LIBs with new cathode using Ni-rich, Li–rich layered and self-supported porous materials as a cathode material with three-dimensional nanoarchitecture. © 2019 Elsevier B.V.

Heart disease is a common problem which can be very severe in old ages and also in people not having a healthy lifestyle. With regular check-up and diagnosis in addition to maintaining a decent eating habit can prevent it to some extent. In this paper we have tried to implement the most sought after and important machine learning algorithm to predict the heart disease in a patient. The decision tree classifier is implemented based on the symptoms which are specifically the attributes required for the purpose of prediction. Using the decision tree algorithm, we will be able to identify those attributes which are the best one that will lead us to a better prediction of the datasets. The decision tree algorithm works in a way where it tries to solve the problem by the help of tree representation. Here each internal node of the tree represents an attribute, and each leaf node corresponds to a class label. The support vector machine algorithm helps us to classify the datasets on the basis of kernel and it also groups the dataset using hyperplane. Heart Disease Prediction Using Machine Learning Algorithm

Influence of l-serine on microstructural, spectroscopic, electrical and nonlinear optical performance of ammonium dihydrogen phosphate single crystal

It remains a challenge to enhance the multiferroic properties of perovskite materials. Herein, we demonstrate a facile sol-gel synthesis of BiFeO3 and Bi0.98Ho0.02Fe1-xCrxO3 (x = 0.01, 0.02, 0.03 and 0.04) nanoparticles with an average size range of 71–35 nm. The crystal phase and structure of as-synthesized powders are studied using Rietveld refinement, which reveal 100% perovskite phase with rhombohedral R3c structure. A saturated loop with small remnant magnetization (Mr) reflects weak ferromagnetism in all the samples. The dc magnetization along with Mössbauer spectroscopy confirms ferromagnetic nature of the compounds. Further, it is to be noted that the co-doping enhances the saturation magnetization to almost three times more than that of pure BiFeO3 and related mechanism was studied in details. Simultaneously, the ferroelectric polarization (Pm) was found to increase from 0.44 μC/cm2 (pure BiFeO3) to 2.08μC/cm2 (Cr doped Bi0.98Ho0.02FeO3). The co-doped samples show high resistivity which is confirmed by the decrease of loss tangent (tanδ) from 3.6 to 0.17 due to the reduction of oxygen vacancies. The band gap of as prepared samples was also found to increase at higher Cr concentration. To the best of our knowledge, for the first time, we have attempted to enhance the multiferroic properties of BiFeO3 using Cr and Ho as co-dopants. © 2019 Elsevier B.V.

Enhanced electrical, magnetic and optical behaviour of Cr doped Bi0.98Ho0.02FeO3 nanoparticles

The effect of Co doping on the structural, optical and magnetic properties of sol-gel derived ZnS films was investigated for their dilute magnetic semiconducting behaviour. X-ray diffraction pattern shows nanocrystalline nature of the films. Raman spectroscopy was used to study the vibrational properties of the films and also to identify any kind of secondary phases. The surface morphology and roughness of the films was analysed through scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The chemical binding state of Co in ZnS lattice was confirmed from the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The optical band gap is found to be decreasing with the incorporation of Co in ZnS. The red emission ~1.7 eV ensures tetrahedral occupation of Co atoms in ZnS lattice. The observed room temperature ferromagnetism in Co:ZnS films is attributed to carrier induced magnetization as well as to the intrinsic defects. The origin of magnetism in Co:ZnS system was studied in terms of the spin-polarized electronic density of states obtained through the density functional theory. © 2019 Elsevier B.V.

Effect of cobalt doping on the structural, optical and magnetic properties of sol-gel derived ZnS nanocrystalline thin films and ab initio studies

Purpose: This work presents the measure of fundamental interaction parameters like mass attenuation coefficient (μ/ρ), mean energy, total atomic (σa) and electronic (σe) cross section, effective atomic number (Zeff), electron density (Nel) and mean free path (mfp) using FF and UF megavoltage x-ray beam for high Z implants. Methods: Narrow beam geometry is used to find out mass attenuation coefficient (μ/ρ) (MAC) which is then used to calculate mean energy (using NIST data), total atomic (σa) and electronic cross section (σe) for different energies. The effective atomic number (Zeff), Electron density (Nel), mean free path (mfp) for both flattened and unflattened x-ray beams for high Z material stainless steel (SS316) and titanium alloy (Grade 5) are studied. Results: The mean energies calculated from NIST data against mass attenuation coefficient were in good agreement with Monte Carlo value. It shows that spectral weighted effective atomic number is independent of megavoltage energies in the Compton region. Effective electron density calculated using Zeff and MAC method is lesser compared to direct method for both high Z materials. The mean free path (mfp) is higher along the central axis than off-axis for flattened beam in comparison to unflattened beam for both of the high Z materials studied because of the variation in energy spectrum for both FF and UF x-ray beams. Conclusion: This study elaborated the fundamental interaction parameters of different energies of flattened and unflattened x-ray beam interactions with high Z materials such as Stainless Steel (SS316) and Titanium (Grade5) relevant in a clinical scenario.
