Speckle noise is a granular disturbance, which is an inherent property in echocardiographic images. One of the most powerful and efficient tools for despeckling of images is wavelet transform. A literature survey conducted reveals many wavelet-based thresholding techniques are developed based on universal or level adaptive methods. To find the optimum threshold is a key point in speckle reduction. This paper shows the comparison of different thresholding techniques with proposed adaptive thresholding technique in terms of peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR), structural similarity measure index (SSIM), image quality index (IQI) and edge preservation index (EPI). The qualitative evaluation is done by using residuals. The processing time is also measured for different algorithms. The obtained results indicate that the proposed thresholding technique gives better performance in most of performance measurement parameters. © 2019, © 2019 IETE.

Classification of damages in composite images using Zernike moments and support vector machines

Purpose: This paper aims to focus on research work related to metamaterial-based sensors for material characterization that have been developed for past ten years. A decade of research on metamaterial for sensing application has led to the advancement of compact and improved sensors. Design/methodology/approach: In this study, relevant research papers on metamaterial sensors for material characterization published in reputed journals during the period 2007-2018 were reviewed, particularly focusing on shape, size and nature of materials characterized. Each sensor with its design and performance parameters have been summarized and discussed here. Findings: As metamaterial structures are excited by electromagnetic wave interaction, sensing application throughout electromagnetic spectrum is possible. Recent advancement in fabrication techniques and improvement in metamaterial structures have led to the development of compact, label free and reversible sensors with high sensitivity. Originality/value: The paper provides useful information on the development of metamaterial sensors for material characterization. © 2018, Emerald Publishing Limited.

The triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) offers a simple and cost-effective method to harness waste energy and works on the principle of contact electrification and electrostatic induction. The performance and application of TENG depend to a great extent on the material used for fabrication. The most widely used materials include polymers and a few metals, well-arranged in the triboelectric series so as to promote electrification upon contact. New triboelectric materials are important for extending the applications and specificity of the TENG. A TENG based on a metal–organic framework (MOF) of the zeolitic imidazole family is reported here. The zeolitic imidazole framework-8 (ZIF-8) and Kapton are used as the active materials for MOF–TENG fabrication. Surface potential, structural, morphological and electrical measurements reveals detailed characteristics of ZIF-8, confirming the MOF as a potential candidate for TENG applications. The MOF–TENG generates a sustainable output of 164 V and 7 µA in vertical contact–separation mode. Finally, a self-powered UV counterfeit system and a tetracycline sensor are successfully developed and demonstrated with the MOF–TENG. Metal–Organic Framework: A Novel Material for Triboelectric Nanogenerator–Based Self‐Powered Sensors and Systems

Smart Health Monitoring System through IOT

A rapid increase in day-to-day consumer electronics and maximum usage of it builds multiple possibilities in human-machine interaction (HMI). By considering the use of electronic components, such as smartphones, tablet computers, keyboards, etc., a large amount of biomechanical energy would be generated. To harvest the waste mechanical energy, the authors have fabricated a smart computer mouse-triboelectric nanogenerator (SCM-TENG) with an interdigitated array (IDA) electrode made of aluminum (Al) and nylon, paper, cotton, polyethylene, and fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) as sliding layers. The SCM-TENG has a high energy output with FEP/Al as a triboelectric material and shows a maximum output of VOC ≈ 210 V and JSC (peak-peak) ≈ 3 μA/m2. We have also carried out stability tests, load resistance analysis, charging commercial capacitors, and a lithium ion (Li-ion) battery. These types of TENG-based electronic devices pave the way for battery-free electronics and commercialization. © 2019 American Chemical Society.
