The corrective feedback sometimes fails to receive the proper response from learners even though they are designed for realising the anticipated outcome. The experience of the researcher made her realize the inadequacy of her teaching even the same set of learners consecutively for two semesters for making the desired changes in the writing skill and their knowledge of language. The assumption was that the corrective mechanism might be one of the reasons for the lack of much improvement in their writing skill. The researcher decided to conduct the action research in the class to be informed of their preference and perspective in the corrective feedback mechanism. The results of the survey conducted made clear the preference of learners in the type of corrective feedback in relation to the occasion, medium, position of learners and strategy. The research has led to the conclusion that it is necessary to be aware of the inclination of learners towards different types of feedback mechanism to be beneficial for them. © Research India Publications.

My learners’ perspective in feedback mechanism-A survey

The present research paper deals with queer identity and ethnic problems that prevail through the characters in the novel Funny Boy. Arjie, the protagonist, learns things on his own and becomes capable enough to judge what is right and what is wrong only at the end. Moreover, the environment in which he grows drastically marks his journey towards queerness. The aim of the paper is to depict how the protagonist transgresses his queer identity and effeminacy from childhood into adulthood with reference to games, love, marriage, queerness, and racism. It also analyses violent struggles between Sinhalese and Tamil ethnic groups which have been brought out perfectly in the novel. © Serials Publications.

In most of the colleges or universities, students are motivated to do projects related to the topics of the particular subjects in the semester. They also form an essential part in the evaluation process. It is a method in which students can demonstrate his practical knowledge, skills, ideas, imagination, creativity rather than only bookish knowledge. This methodology can be applied effectively in English Language Teaching. Class based learning is sometimes monotonous and hence a drift apart from it is important to nuture young minds. Projects for engineers: An innovative approach in english language teaching

Children and young people are employed as soldiers, and also as perpetrators of other forms of violence by terrorists. This paper analyses how the innocent youth are lured towards terror outfits, the aftermath of terrorist activities on the people involved in it and also others who are not directly involved in it. The paper also brings out how the young adults' behavioral development is affected by their involvement with violence as victims and perpetrators using the novel No Guns at my Son's Funeral, Paro Anand's novel was in the IBBY Honor list nominated young adult novel. Postcolonial Indian writers use different postmodern fictional techniques to distort time and space in order to represent postcolonial Indian reality in fiction. Tabish Khair uses innovative postmodern narrative like intertextuality, self reflexivity, unreliable narration, metafictional historiograpy in The Thing About Thugs to deconstruct the colonial image of the thugs. The identity of the thugs as a colonial construct misrepresented the thugs as ruthless killers. The British used the stereotyped image of the thugs as the binary other to establish themselves as civilized. The British projected the cult of thugee as embodying antisocial practice in India in order to justify their repressive colonial experience. The author blurs the distinction between the time past and time present by incorporating various postmodern fiction techniques to recreate a postcolonial gothic situation. This paper tries to problematize on the stereotypical colonial identity of the thugs by analyzing the colonial narrative in the postcolonial context. © Serials Publications.

Energy management in smart grid

The traditional notion of English as a foreign language solely for communicating with native speakers can no longer be applied in a world that is constantly changing, hence paving the way for an alternative use of the language known as English as a lingua franca. As a result, instead of focusing only on grammatical correctness, research into language pedagogy has also come to recognize the importance of exploring bottom-up learning processes, and developing intercultural communicative competence (ICC) and more communicative-based methods. Nowadays, it is essential to acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and critical cultural awareness necessary to communicate successfully. To show the importance of integrating ICC in language pedagogy, a recording from the Vienna-Oxford International Corpus of English is analysed here to demonstrate the significance of developing critical awareness as well as several communicative strategies, so that language learners can afterwards have the necessary ICC to interact in today’s multi-lingual/cultural society.

Virtual Learning: An e-Learning Experience

This paper presents the hardware implementation of 12/24V closed loop boost converter using dSPACE 1104 controller board for lamp load. The proposed system consists of 12V battery, closed loop boost converter and 24V lamp load. The closed loop boost converter is used to boost the 12V input DC voltage to 24V DC output. To regulate the output of the converter, feedback voltage is given to dSPACE controller. Using control desk and MATLAB, voltage from dSPACE is amplified and compared with reference voltage which in turn generates PWM signal that controls the switching of IGBT. Initially simulation is carried out using PI controller in MATLAB. The experimental results for closed loop boost converter obtained in software and hardware are presented here and verified with theoretical results. © 2014 IEEE.
