Listening to Earth Stories: An Interview with Swarnalatha Rangarajan

Young Adult Literature is still an emerging term in India, yet it has broken the stereotype that it deals only with superficial issues and is a less serious literary genre. Nilima Sinha’s first Young Adult Novel Red Blooms in the Forest effectively brings out the victimisation of people and the reasons for young adults’ deliberate involvement and participation in the Naxal movement. Naxalism, which is considered to be the greatest threat to internal security of India, started with the objective to liberate the rural masses from the clutches of the feudal class. The current economic policies of liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation have significantly affected the livelihood of the rural masses and puts social welfare and employment in jeopardy. The economic reforms induced by corruption and poverty have triggered social crisis on people from every stratum of society. The study analyses the young adult novel Red Blooms in the Forest and brings out the view that the Naxal movement, which was started to liberate the rural masses, has now turned into a trap. The distorted resistance has proved to be a Frankenstein monster that threatens the capitalists, the downtrodden/the oppressor and the oppressed alike. © Universiti Putra Malaysia Press.

Visual impairment: A comparison of global and Indian perspective

Research in artificial intelligence and cognitive computing (simulation of human thought processes in machines involving self-learning systems and processes that efficiently use pattern recognition such as detecting voice, or acquiring data (data mining) and imitating human thoughts in machines) is an evolutionary and innovative field acquiring knowledge from liberal arts, humanities such as management science, philosophy, psychology. The need to rely on these disciplines is of vital importance and strategic value in today's technology up-gradation as robots are designed to think and behave like human-beings. Robotic technology can assess and solve problems through the aid of human intervention and support. Issues that are of a laborious nature can be solved through machine technology and processes or machines and humans must work together to solve larger problems of which the dire need is where humans and machines need to work together in solving problems of global warming and climate change. India's technological climate: a harbinger in resolving and reducing the carbon footprint

Background: Technological advancement has revolutionized various aspects of healthcare sector. The term e-Healthcare and its usage evolved in 1990s. The global term, e-Healthcare is a reference to everything that is related to computers, internet and medicine. e-Healthcare is relatively a new phenomenon and rapidly growing sector in India. It includes clinical customer services, storing health records, sharing health information, health surveillance, healthcare courses, programs and research. Though there are unprecedented e-services happening in health care sector, identity or data theft is considered as one of the major issues in e-health care. Methods: The study aims at analyzing students’ e-health preference and readiness through a survey questionnaire among engineering undergraduates in Chennai. Results and discussion: A survey analysis is attached to figure out students’ e-health readiness. The study also reveals the lack of opportunities to use internet and apps for health. The lack of awareness about e-health in India is majorly because of no or slow access to internet in rural areas. Though doctors prefer online services, students are worried about cyber security and threats. Students opinion that Government and Health care service providers should safeguard patients’ identity by ensuring individual’s right to privacy and dignity. Conclusion: Various parameters available in the form of technology are discussed and successful national healthcare startups are listed to focus on ‘Health care to every citizen’. E-Health Care: A Techno Medical Revolution

Professional students have to enrich their vocabulary to secure a job and meet the challenges in the job. But the question is whether at the tertiary level they can be allowed to be in groups in the class and to fend for themselves or given minimal assistance from the teacher or they need to rely on the teacher for improving their knowledge of vocabulary. The researcher adopted both the teaching methods in the study and in addition to the teaching methods, she used both incomprehensible and simplified material for the study for the study. The 2x2 factorial design which was followed shows that neither method of teaching nor the nature of input has much positive effect on them to improve their vocabulary. © IAEME Publication

The effect of input and method of instruction on mechanical engineering students for improving vocabulary

Fertility is highly valued in most cultures and the wish for a child is one of the most basic of all human motivations. For women, pregnancy and motherhood are developmental milestones that are highly emphasized by our culture. When attempts to have a child fail, it can be an emotionally devastating experience. Such experience tends to create psychological imbalance in the individual in emotional, cognitive, behavioural and social factors. The imbalance, henceforth, affects the family health. The current study aims to understand the psychological health of infertile patients who are in treatment (assisted reproductive therapy). The research design used in the study is exploratory research design and purposive sampling method. The sample includes 20 infertile patients undergoing ART. Data was collected using in depth interview method and analysed using grounded theory method. The study was conducted in the assumption that childless infertile Indian women face many emotional and social problems pertaining to self, family and society. The study explored emotional, cognitive, social, relational and behavioural aspects of infertility. In the study, 60% of the participants were women and 40% couples (both husband and wife). Almost 80% of the women were emotionally broken during the interview which was also a limitation for collecting the required data. Results indicate that childless women tend to compare themselves with other pregnant women and kids and end up with feelings of low self worth, self hatred and lack of interest in life. Wanting to kill loneliness, enjoy parenthood and to bring a companion for the first child are the motivation factors for considering assisted reproductive therapy. The 90% couples consider treatment after the second year of their marriage. Considering counselling and psychological support as part of assisted reproductive therapy may enable them to gain emotional stability in dealing with social challenges of infertility. © Medwell Journals, 2018.

Understanding psychological health of infertile women undergoing assisted reproductive therapy: In-depth interviews with infertile women

Imagine a world where men are afraid of women; a world in which boys are sent safely to boys-only schools. Naomi Alderman devises such a world where a new power makes young girls physically stronger and overpower men. Naomi's Power can be considered as Speculative Fiction which has long questioned the traditional preoccupation of power between sexes. These feminist speculative novels create a space for women to reverse the gender roles ascribed to them. The genre provides freedom of imagination for the women writers to imagine a world of their own. Feminist Fabulation (FF) is a term coined by Marleen S Barr conceptualized in Feminist Fabulation Space/Postmodern Fiction. The term gave legitimacy to women writers of speculative, science and utopian fictions. Feminist Science Fiction aims at envisioning transformation in patriarchal order of the society. This paper will examine the use of power and also explore the altered power structures in Naomi Alderman's The Power, as it explores and explodes the realities of hegemony and alters it to create a world for women with ultimate power. It shows what changes when the holder of power is reversed. It further probes into what does not change and why. Though women use this power to shield them from men, being the possessors of power they indubitably show their dominance. Alderman reinforces the adversities of power, no matter who holds it. Perusal of the power: The ascendancy of electrifying women in naomi alderman's speculative fiction

The present study deeply analyses the different perspectives of the immigrants towards their country of destination which results in the categorisation of immigrants as either diaspora or transnationals. It also explores the way in which diaspora and transnationalism begin to swerve in their paths; the immigrant’s roots and routes are alike but their standpoints are unlike. The act of crossing nation is shared between the two but the different perspectives of the immigrant enable them to develop distinct ideologies which streams to assorted conclusions such as diaspora or transnationals. The channel of diaspora is brimmed with thorns and speed breakers like loneliness and estrangement, that dwindles the speed of the progressive status of the migrants to authorise their identity and they wander in-between the social spaces influenced by the host community and migrated society. Whereas, the boulevard of transnationalism is suffused with restricted speed breakers like nostalgia; it is a smooth lane filled with opportunities of being in more than one place simultaneously to the migrants and ends in acquiring the global identity by overcoming all the impediments in their lives. The objective of the present study is to identify the distinctions of the two concepts and analyse the different perspectives of the immigrants through the novels Zadie Smith’s White Teeth and Colm Toibin’s Brooklyn under the light of the conventional assimilation theory and assemblage theory. © Universiti Putra Malaysia Press.

An ideology of crossing nation: From conflict to emergence

Focusing towards the identification on the current issues with improvisation on every field, language becomes a mandatory field which needs to get improved at all levels. Hence, raises the need of the current research study. Many students lose good opportunities due to lack of vocabulary. This prudent research highlights the technological modality to explore 93 ESL learners’ vocabulary knowledge through social strategies. TED talks were used as an annexure towards a power pointed management also to make a demonstration anywhere. Henceforth it is been used towards specific or general means on learning. The obtained results of the study revealed that the use of technological modality is more effective for learning the meaning of new vocabulary. The pre-test and post-test results shows the significant development and relationship between social strategies and TED Talk videos for learning a new vocabulary in the target language.
