Students’ Perception of Toxic Masculinity and its Effects

Gamification and Game based activities for learning are the current trends acknowledged in the education sector. In a foreign language context, target language is mostly confined to the classroom and the teacher. Hence learning, remembering and retaining the new words become a herculean task for the learners. This study examines the games that the Learning Management System (LMS) – MOODLE employs and how these games were used to fortify the vocabulary learning of the German learners at tertiary level. Pre - and Posttest with two weeks of intervention through Moodle games were done. The results show a significant increase in the test score and a positive attitude among learners to learn German through games. An increase in the learners’ retention of new words is exemplified. The study also confirms that games can bring in joy to learning and actively engage learners anytime and anywhere.&nbsp;

GAMIFICATION THROUGH MOODLE TO ENHANCE VOCABULARY LEARNING

Background: The emphasis on vocabulary instruction in math class es has gained momentum in recent years. Mathematics vocabulary instruction enables students to comprehend and understand mathematical concepts. Most of the study and research findings on integrating or incorporating vocabulary instruction in math classes focus on high school and middle school students. As Math is the foundation for science and engineering, training on math concepts begins at school and extends to the college level. Methods: The study draws on a simple percentage method to understand students’ proficiency in math vocabulary, their difficulties in comprehending the word problems and integrating vocabulary instruction into Math classes. An online questionnaire survey was distributed among first-year undergraduate engineering students in Chennai to identify students’ exposure to math vocabulary and their views on integrating vocabulary instruction into the math classroom. The primary data collected through an online survey is analyzed using R studio. Results and Discussion: As the students come from different backgrounds, the level of understanding the math vocabulary, new or unfamiliar words from real-life experience, adds complexity in the teaching-learning process. Given the system of education with a prescribed time (classes) for completion of the syllabus, both the students and teachers may find it challenging to focus on math vocabulary instruction. Integrating vocabulary instruction into math classroom

Learner autonomy involves readiness on the part of learners to take responsibility for their own learning. It enables learners to learn effectively and for effective teaching and learning to take place, teachers need to equip themselves with strategies of promoting autonomy. Therefore, it is essential to look into English language teachers’ beliefs about learner autonomy to be able to promote it in language learning situation. The present study aims to investigate willingness of teachers and prospective teachers (research scholars of English) in granting autonomy to learners within the class. The paper reports on the research findings of the study carried out with 42 English teachers working in various institutions across the state, Tamil Nadu. The study focuses on a few important aspects of learner autonomy comprising the choice of topic for class discussion and assignment, teaching strategy and group of students and the responsibility learners assume for their own learning. The collected data are analyzed and interpreted using statistical analysis to find out the willingness on the part of teachers and teachers-to-be to allow learners to become autonomous learners.

Storytelling among Children: A Survey

The gap in the competent writing skills expected of students for a few positions in companies, and the writing skills which they possess, in actual, out of the practice in the class assignments given bring to limelight the necessity for following the techniques in writing, and paucity of time for the teachers to impart techniques to students in the class for enhancing their writing skills. The researchers’ quench for finding out the impact of the appropriate techniques to improve the writing skills by creating awareness about the writing process has kindled to carry out the present study. A single group pre and post-test design was followed to find out whether it proves the researchers’ surmise in the failure of following the writing techniques on the part of students. The subsequent analysis employing the paired t test confirmed the actual practice in the class which has been bereft of the knowledge of students about the writing process.

Does Awareness of Writing Process Improve theStudent’s Writing Skills?

β-Glucan-binding protein (βGBP) is important for the rational expansion of molecular biology. Here, zinc oxide nanoparticle (ZnONP) was synthesized using βGBP from the crab Scylla serrata (Ss-βGBP-ZnONP). Ss-βGBP-ZnONP was observed as a 100 kDa band on sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel and characterized with UV-vis spectroscopy at 350 nm. X-ray diffraction analysis displayed values consistent with those for zincite. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy revealed the presence of functional groups, including amide, alcohol, alkane, alkyl halide, and alkene groups. The zeta potential (-5.36 mV) of these particles indicated their stability, and transmission electron microscopy revealed the presence of 50 nm nanocones. Ss-βGBP-ZnONPs were tested at 100 μg/mL against the gram-positive Enterococcus faecalis and gram-negative Pseudomanas aeruginosa using confocal laser scanning microscopy and the bacterial viability assay was also performed. The growth of MCF7 breast cancer cells was inhibited following treatment with 75 μg/mL Ss-βGBP-ZnONPs. Thus, Ss-βGBP-ZnONPs have the ability to control the growth of pathogenic bacteria and inhibit the viability of MCF7 breast cancer cell lines.

Antibiofilm and anticancer potential of β-glucan-binding protein-encrusted zinc oxide nanoparticles

Eleusine coracana (Finger millet) has high nutritional value with numerous health benefits and is of low cost. Isolation of beta-glucan (βG) from E. coracana (Ec-βG) has gained increasing research attention. UV-vis spectroscopy used to measure the surface plasmon resonance at 361 nm to confirm the presence of polysaccharides (glucan molecules) in Ec-βG. X-ray diffraction analysis of Ec-βG displayed a crystalline nature and confirmed the presence of the βG molecule. Further, the bioactive compounds of Ec-βG were screened using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The antibacterial activity of Ec-βG against both Gram-positive (Lysinibacillus fusiformis, Enterococcus faecalis) and Gram-negative (Proteus vulgaris, Shigella sonnei) bacteria were assessed through minimum inhibitory concentrations

Learning vocabulary is perplexing, principally ESL learners frontinghitches when comes to meanings of new words, spelling, pronunciation, usage of a new word, context guessing and so on. The present study advocates that ESL learners’ to confront vocabulary knowledge and also to advance the vocabulary level through the emerging technique of TED talks. TED, or Technology Entertainment and Design, was started in 1984 and covers all the topics on Earth and above in various cultures of the world. They have global community of people who have deeper understanding about their topics which can change the world by their attitudes and thoughts. Now a day’s TED talks get entangled with the personal constraints on a teachers’ view or perception. Henceforth it is been used towards specific or general means on learning. A qualitative research through an emerging technique to improve vocabulary for ESL learners

Presentation skill is an important employability skill that makes learners convey their ideas with confidence. It is a much required skill at workplaces, and employers look for it in employees during the interview process because presenting ideas with clarity and effectiveness is very much needed at workplaces. Developing presentation skill in classroom is important because it not only develops the communication skill of students but elevates their level of confidence. As presentation has become an indispensable part of tests pertinent to speaking, this study focuses on developing the presentation skill of students. It is believed that Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques would help in achieving the task of making students present their ideas in English with confidence. A pilot study was carried out with a group of twenty students in order to assess the effectiveness of NLP techniques in developing the presentation skill of students. The study found a considerable difference in the presentation level of the students before and after implementing NLP techniques.
